Thank you Adelia Ritchie, PhD for that information. Defining a non-living reproducing entity as a life-form is conceptually challenging, but not not illogical based on the criteria of reproduction. Makes me wonder if viruses do have some sort of experience which can be defined as a form of ‘awareness’ with which it ‘knows’ when to put its genetic information into a cell. This process can, of course, be considered just a basic chemical reaction that’s triggered by being connected to a cell and thus requires no additional awareness/knowledge of its environment. However, might the ‘sensing’ of the connection to a cell be defined as a rudimentary experience based on an awareness? This may just be a meaningless semantic question, or it may indicate a reason to modify the concepts of awareness and experience. Hmmm…Great point…Thanks again!
